2009 THP TRIATHALON

The AAD 5th Annual Dinner Silent Auction has come and gone, and it was another huge success! A sincere thanks goes out to all of our donors, parents, friends and family for your support with this year's event.

One of our last experiences of the year is upon us, the 2009 THP Triathlon! The event runs from June 15th-19th, and includes students from grade 4 through grade 9 from hockey and sport rec. One of the most important aspects for the triathlon is the support you can give us, and that doesn't necessarily mean volunteering:

1. Gear: Every student-athlete requires, at the minimum: running attire and swimming attire (which can usually be the same thing, except the sneakers of course), inline skates and a helmet. All of these items need to be secure in a single bag, preferably zipped up as all the gear is placed in trucks for transport down to Mill Creek Pool from Donnan School. Loose skates don't work out very well, and we'd like to eliminate any sort of delays for our competitive athletes.

2. I'm praying to the sun-gods, but nothing short of Hurricane Auchenberg will halt the event. Encourage your athlete to dress accordingly.

3. Water is provided at several points on the course, so bottles or camel-backs or buckets are unnecessary.

Thanks!

Power Summer Camp

What is TLP POWER?

TLP POWER Lacrosse is a sport alternative program for Grades 7 to 12, operating in partnership with the Edmonton Public School Board.  TLP Power has been created to provide a training ground to develop players into Canada’s best and brightest lacrosse players.  Student-athletes in the program combine their academic and lacrosse pursuits within the school environment.  Student-athletes receive 200 hours of direct lacrosse instruction over the course of the school year.

Our program has been extremely successful in developing strong students and lacrosse players.  TLP Power boasts 16 players that have played at National Championships on Team Alberta in either box lacrosse or field lacrosse.  Two of our students, Matt Pick and Kirby Zdrill, have used our program to move forward to play at prep schools on the East Coast.  Matt at the Hill Academy in Ontario and Kirby at Westminster Prep in Connecticut.  Kirby will be attending Yale University in September 2009 combining his academics with his sport of lacrosse.  Our program has been extremely successful in developing strong students and lacrosse players.

If you are interested in turning the corner with your academics and your joy of lacrosse, then TLP Power is for you.  Please click here to download the TLP POWER brochure.  For registration information please visit the apply now section of the website.

"Jimmy Quinlan and Paul Rai have created an inspiring environment for developing the individual and team skill sets a player requires to compete at the highest level. I attribute the appetite my son has to attend The Lacrosse Program at Vimy Ridge Academy to the Character, Heart and Passion for which Jimmy and Paul bring not only to the floor but also the demands they expect for academic achievment. They demand hard work and hold the athletes accountable. With Tracey Kelusky`s NSD program in Calgary and The Lacrosse Program at Vimy Ridge in Edmonton, Alberta`s lacrosse players have two affordable Elite programs to chose from that offer as many future choices as any available in Canada"

The TLP Power is very excited to add Jimmy Quinlan as our teacher. Jimmy works with TLP Power students each afternoon on the playing field, teaching the intricacies of the field and box lacrosse game. In the morning Jimmy teaches junior high math. Jimmy is a four year veteran of the National Lacrosse League, the last three with the Edmonton Rush. He brings incredible experience to our program on a daily basis. Jimmy has played Junior A lacrosse in BC and Ontario. His Senior A experience was with the Coquitlam Adanacs in the Western Lacrosse Association. Jimmy is a great lacrosse player whose who has great focus on the floor. Jimmy brings this same focus to the classroom and the field when he works with students in our program. Our students will only develop under his tutelage.

Kirby Zdrill – Westminster Prep School

Kirby Zdrill is currently following his dreams of combining education with athletics at Westminster School in Connecticut. That dream will continue next year as Kirby Zdrill has committed to attend prestigious Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Kirby attended The Lacrosse Program in 2005/06 before leaving for Westminster Prep School. Westminster enjoys a reputation as one of the finest college-preparatory schools, and certainly one of the very top small boarding schools, in the country. At Westminster Kirby has been developing his lacrosse skills with their Varsity lacrosse team while being heavily recruited by many top NCAA schools. We are extremely proud of having the privilege of working with Kirby Zdrill ad playing a part in his success. He exemplifies what the TLP Power stands for.
